Strengthening International Cooperation for Safe and Dignified Labour Migration

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka is committed to fostering robust international partnerships that promote safe, orderly, and dignified migration for Sri Lankan workers. Through a comprehensive network of bilateral and multilateral agreements, Sri Lanka has established strong collaborative frameworks with nations across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and beyond.

Our Ministry has successfully concluded 31 active international agreements spanning 16 countries and regions, comprising Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), Memoranda of Cooperation (MoCs), bilateral Agreements, and Joint Declarations of Intent (JDIs). These instruments reflect Sri Lanka’s dedication to protecting the rights and welfare of migrant workers while facilitating mutually beneficial labour mobility partnerships with destination countries.

These agreements serve as vital frameworks for regulating recruitment practices, ensuring fair employment conditions, providing social security benefits, and establishing mechanisms for bilateral cooperation in addressing challenges faced by Sri Lankan workers abroad. Through these partnerships, the Ministry continues to strengthen its role as a responsible labour-sending nation committed to ethical recruitment and worker protection.
