The International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) organized a Project Orientation Meeting at the District Secretariat in Vavuniya on 21 January 2026. The event brought together government officials and district stakeholders to strengthen collaboration around the Migration Information Centre (MIC) initiative.
The meeting served as a platform to introduce the MIC initiative, review progress achieved during 2024–2025, and present the planned activities for 2026–2027. It also emphasized the importance of enhancing coordination and stakeholder engagement at the district level to ensure the success of upcoming projects.
The District Secretary of Vavuniya addressed the gathering, followed by remarks from Dr. Sugath Yalegama, Additional Secretary, and Mr. K. Nikarilkanth, Senior Assistant Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment & Tourism. A detailed presentation on MIC progress and the upcoming work plan was delivered by Shamir Shalih, MRC Coordinator.
All Foreign Employment Development Officers (FEDOs) from the district actively participated in the meeting. The session concluded with an open discussion and Q&A, providing an opportunity for participants to share insights, raise questions, and contribute to strengthening the initiative at the local level.
