
The International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) conducted a Project Orientation Meeting at the District Secretariat in Anuradhapura on 22 January 2026. The event brought together government officials and district stakeholders to strengthen collaboration and advance the Migration Information Centre (MIC) initiative.
The meeting provided an opportunity to introduce the MIC initiative, review progress achieved during 2024–2025, and present the planned activities for 2026–2027. It also highlighted the importance of enhancing coordination and stakeholder engagement at the district level to ensure effective implementation of upcoming programmes.
The session was addressed by Mr. Ranjith Wimalasooriya, District Secretary – Anuradhapura, and included remarks from Dr. Sugath Yalegama, Additional Secretary, and Mr. K. Nikarilkanth, Senior Assistant Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment & Tourism. Presentations on MIC progress and the forthcoming work plan were delivered by Shamir Shalih, MRC Coordinator, and H. G. Sarath Pallegama, MRC Counsellor.
All Foreign Employment Development Officers (FEDOs) of the district actively participated in the meeting. The programme concluded with an open discussion and Q&A session, providing a platform for participants to share insights, raise questions, and contribute to strengthening the initiative at the local level.
